5.51ct Antique "Monture Cartier" Old Mine Cut Diamond Solitaire, French

$89,500

A ring we fell in love with instantly - and after you hear its history, you might too! This piece is a Monture Cartier, which means the diamond was owned by an important client and the setting was a "special command" or commission from Cartier, of which only a very select exist in the market today.

These rare commissions were always one-of-a-kind, the most of which was the Wallis Simpson's diamond and gemstone brooch (last sold in auction for $1.7m).

This particular ring houses a chunky 5.51ct old mine cut with the prettiest soft square shape and blindingly bright facets. We speculate that the diamond maybe much older than the mounting and Cartier was commissioned for the reset. Interesting enough, the ring is also stamped "EB" which is the known trademark for jeweler Eugene Bako, a master watchmaker for both houses of Cartier and Boucheron at the turn of the century. Bako's stunning work can be seen in several Cartier clocks from the era.

On the finger, the ring looks like a full 7cts in size, low set and just so incredibly chic. IFKYK and a very very special collector's piece indeed.

18kt yellow gold, size 6.5 and sizable (smaller with limitations - please inquire).

French Eagle punch mark, Eugene Bako maker's mark.

Diamond measures 11.21 x 11.86 x 6.22mm
