The concept of mourning jewelry has been around since the Middle Ages, but peaked during the mid 1800’s up until the early 1900’s thanks to Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria was in love with her husband Prince Albert, and when he passed in 1861 she spent the next four decades decked out in black, with plenty of mourning jewelry to boot. She adorned herself with jewels in memory of Albert - an act that many of us do to this day with our own pieces.

This yellow gold heart with a turquoise cabochon center is the sweetest pendant - the hand-engraved detail along the surface is absolutely dreamy. On the other side of the heart is a braided lock of hair, presumably memorializing a loved one. We love the color of the turquoise up against the warm yellow gold, and find it to be absolutely charming.

15kt Yellow Gold, 15.8mm in length.
