1.89ctw Antique Victorian Ruby and Diamond Maltese Cross

The Maltese cross motif comes to us from the emblem of the Knights Hospitallers, an 11th century military and religious order from the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Eventually, the Hospitallers became so powerful and wealthy, headquartered in Malta, and still remaining in Catholic Europe today (as what is now more commonly known as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta!).

What separates the Maltese cross from other antique cruciform pieces is the four arms of equal size, as well as the indentation on each arm - essentially making for 8 endpoints instead of 4. Maltese crosses are a visual delight, adding depth and detail into what otherwise is a simply cross.

Ours is an antique dream, and we’re absolutely in love with it! Over 100 rose cut diamonds adorn the entire pendant, with four natural rubies on the arms and a lovely Old Euro right in the center. It almost feels as if every time you look at her, you find a new little detail. The sparkle and Victorian vibes from this pendant are spectacular (a diamond covered bale? Swoon!), and we think it makes the perfect statement piece.

Pendant measures 2” x 2”, Silver on 18kt Yellow Gold.

Diamonds measure H/I, H/K colors and VS2, VS/SI clarities, GIA standards.
