I'm a purist at heart, and always choose to honor the history and rarity of antique and vintage jewels. And when broken-up jewels happen to come across my desk, I strive to imagine ways to make them wearable again. After all, what's the point of having these beautiful works of art just sit in jewelry boxes or worse, get scrapped altogether?
Such is the case with these Victorian components. They came to me broken up, centers long harvested. I played with the notion of turning one in to an antique halo ring, and the other into a pendant. In the end, I felt they needed to stay together and voila: earrings were the natural choice. I removed the center pieces, and added yellow gold fixed wires and french hooks. The earrings are now a one-of-a-kind conversion which honors the era, but also wearable by the next generation.
Estimated to be 4.50ctw of chunky old mine cut diamonds. The diamonds are so bright and fiery too, contrasting beautifully against the deep patina of the cut down collet settings!
Compass measures 22mm in diameter. Gold wire (14kt yellow gold) is 1" in length, and the French hooks have a 6mm drop.
